The Employee & Family Assistance Program

Working with Your Organization
EFAPs are joint employer-employee efforts from design to implementation to maintenance. Each TNARS-member workplace develops its own EFAP within the framework of the model but customized to that particular work setting. Smaller workplaces are required to have the EFAP structure of larger workplaces.

Design Committee: A joint Design Committee develops a program for the workplace, starting with a Policy Statement and a "Responsibilities and Access Procedures" document.
EFAP Committee: A joint EFAP Committee administers the program, overseeing implementation and ensuring ongoing planning, education, awareness, and annual evaluation. There is a direct correlation between an active EFAP Committee and a high rate of earlier program use.
EFAP Representatives: EFAP Reps are employees, retirees, spouses and dependents who have been selected and trained as peer resources. They do not have a counselling function - their role is to provide program information and education with a focus on early intervention, prevention, and wellness.

What is the cost?
All services provided by the ARS are no charge to the employee, retiree, or family member accessing the service. Additional counselling services may entail some cost to the client, if they are not covered by the employee benefit package.

Who is covered?
All employees, active or retired and their immediate family members can use the program.

What is the focus of EFAP?
The EFAP encourages people with personal problems to get help as soon as possible before they seriously affect family and work life, and individual health and safety. The program also seeks to make people aware of how they can have healthier and safer lives.
